Journal Entry 1 Journal Entry 1 Even though this is only the first week of the new course, I can already tell I have opened the door to a completely new side of HR. Right before my promotion, my current position transitioned from a completely HR focused role to a very limited HR role with more administrative duties.
Fortunate for me I am able to get a little taste of HR functions; enough to keep me interested and wanting to learn more. I was completely surprised as to how many programs there are for HR functions. Due to my extremely limited HR role, I am only familiar with two programs that I currently use.
I had no idea there were so many options available. I am very interested to get to use some of them due to their ability to interface with other programs and programmatic functions.
The ability for the information to crossover is extremely helpful and can help eliminate any errors in areas such as pay calculations versus scheduled classes to be taught this is an example directly related to my experience in my current position. What applications do you see in your job?
Now, I do see how it is related directly to HR functions, but also ties in operational and academic aspects as well. Again, this is an example directly related to my current position. I also use SkillPort to direct faculty and staff through various training modules to for both personal and professional training requirements.
I will say that I do appreciate the flexibility that SkillPort provides. I really do not have any specific questions as the course is still new.
Being that I have never done one of these before, the questions may also fall after the assignment has been completed. The paper on employee engagement will also result in a few questions as well. I have used surveys before but I have never used surveys related to HR within my own workplace.
It will be interesting to see how my fellow colleagues view the workplace in relation to my own views. Our views are polar opposites.
I feel the organization greatly supports talent and promotions from within; however Alison does not see this at all. This make me anxious to get started on the surveys and analyze the responses!
What would you like to know more about? In regards to talent management, I would love to learn more. I know very limited information about how these HRIS systems can be tied to talent management outside of compensation and performance.
I am also looking forward to learning more about building a competency model and how it can help support talent acquisition and retention.
